Former Tripura leader minister Biplab Kumar Deb used to be elected to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, defeating CPI-M candidate and previous minister Bhanulal Saha through 28 votes.

Deb won 43 votes (36 for the BJP and seven for the IPFT), whilst Saha won 15 votes whilst the one Congressional MLA abstained from the vote.
